This compact (only 714 sq ft) apartment posed a unique challenge: how to maximize and elevate a small space for real living for a dynamic, newly-wed couple and their favorite four-legged friend. The clients work hard and play hard, so this design had to meet a lot of demands in a tiny footprint. In addition to the practical needs, the clients desired big, bold design, a bit of whimsy and inviting comfort.

Necessity, as they say, is the mother of invention. So, we crafted an eclectic modern design and bespoke furnishings throughout to transform this small white box into a functional, cozy, yet elegant retreat.

For the bespoke rug, an amorphous shape was in order to soften the many corners and angles throughout. Custom colorways helped to create a tight color story, uniting the sofa and nearby custom pendants.
How can form and interplay of shapes inspire? That was the question. We built a cohesive color scheme mixing in a variety of natural materials and textures to create a dynamic, yet cozy place for these newlyweds to call home.

Repetition creates harmony. The custom pendants, repeating in shape but unique in color, tie the Kitchen and Dining to the rest of the space.

In response to the newlyweds’ request for a moody, yet soothing sleeping chamber, we wrapped the walls in a midnight hue, but added a pale blue to the ceiling for a calm transition.
To accommodate a king-sized bed in a miniature-sized room, we crafted a custom wall-to-wall headboard with a built-in walnut ledge and floating bedside shelves, providing softness and utility in a minimal footprint.
